Lupine spent his durance as a wild wolf chasing the other changelings around; and it shows. Although he is now free of Arcadia the aura of a predator will always be with him. He and Butterfly managed to escape together and they have been together since. Lupine sees himself as her protector and more-the more is what confuses him. Is he her friend or does he want/need to be more? He also knows that his protection is most likely the only reason she is still a part of the freehold. Although he worries about the freehold turning against her he also worries that she will return on her own. He remembers her fear of leaving…that she would become sick again. She feared losing her beautiful body, her strength, and vitality to the crippling disease that had invaded her life. As much as she wished to return she would’ve remained had she thought that would happen. Lupine remembers her fear freezing her in place and that he dragged her through the thorns back to the world they belonged in.
Although Butterfly and Lupine had the same keeper they had very different durances. Butterfly was transformed into a beautiful butterfly. She need only fly gracefully over the beautiful Arcadian landscape. Overall, her durance was one of tranquility and beauty-something very few changelings can say. Unfortunately, this and her illness made her very hesitant to leave when the opportunity arose. Lupine on the other hand, had a violent and bloody durance. Turned into a wolf he was left to hunt for food and to defend himself with his new sharp teeth and claws. The red haze of the hunt eventually over took him and he lost most of his remaining humanity. In theory, they both should’ve been lost to Arcadia forever. Instead, she came across him as he getting ready to make a kill. Butterfly became visibly frightened and this touched the last remaining shred of humanity in Lupine; he had the sudden urge to comfort her. They have been inseparable since. Neither of them know for sure how they escaped their keeper.
